Description
“The nose is balanced but incisive, with tart and sweet aromas of blackberries and black cherries, as well as a strong, superspicy, almost smoky blend of earth and herbs. That balance continues on the palate, which has an additional contrast between indulgent chocolate and firm, unintimidated tannins.” ~ Wine Enthusiast.
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC “Mammut” is a great structured red wine. The grapes, 100% Montepulciano, are carefully selected and harvested in mid October. Then, only the free-run must gets pressed and winemaking takes place at a controlled temperature. After malolactic fermentation, which grants a particular fineness and maturation, the wine need to be aged in stainless steel tanks for 18 Months. Bottle refinement lasts at least 6 months.
Cascina del Colle is a leader in the region of Abruzzo, with all the vineyards that are all south and southeast facing. The “Mammut’ bottling is 100% Montepulciano and is named after the archaeological discovery of a Mammoth tusk in the second half of the 1960s at the point where the current company “La Cascina del Colle” was built. Hence the idea of a wine that was representative, powerful and majestic.
The mild but hard land where the harshness of the mountains matches with the peace of the sea is the setting where our company originated by representing our rural family’s cult and tradition. The view of sunny and luxuriant vineyards and olive trees located in the south of our hill and around 300 meters from the sea has been excited every member of my family for sixty years. I really thank my father for all of that. Every year, harsh winters and hot summers give us wonderful grapes creating a handcrafted wine packed in hand numbered bottles. Such grapes express the love we feel for our land and our passion for what we do.
We are sure that drinking our wine will be an exciting and unique experience.
