Description
A Bordeaux blend that aims to faithfully express the terroir from which the entire tradition and winemaking heritage of Concha y Toro emerged. Marqués de Casa Concha wines were created as a tribute to the title conferred upon the Concha y Toro family in 1718 by King Felipe V of Spain. These single-vineyard wines are made in limited production with grapes grown in prime estate-owned vineyards of Chile. Each wine in the Marqués de Casa Concha line represents the majesty and caliber of each “noble” variety, exemplifying Concha y Toro’s ethos in the tradition and art of fine winemaking. These wines have consistently broken the 90-point barrier, attracting numerous domestic and international awards year after year.
The Mariscal vineyard is located at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level and consists of 52.95 hectares, of which 46.23 hectares are Cabernet Sauvignon, 4.52 hectares are Cabernet Franc, and 2.20 hectares are Petit Verdot. It has a density of 5,500 plants/hectare, with vines mostly on their own roots from massal selection. On the other hand, the Don Melchor vineyard is located at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level and consists of 125.96 hectares, of which 112.67 hectares are Cabernet Sauvignon, 1.28 hectares are Cabernet Franc, 2.45% are Merlot, 1.28 hectares are Petit Verdot, and 8.28 hectares are rotating land. It has a density of 2,000 to 4,000 plants/hectare, with the new vines (20%) planted between 2004 and 2017 and with a density of 8,000 plants/hectare. The vines come from pre-phylloxera massal selection and are on their own roots.
Tasting notes:
Deep and dark red color. Oily flavors of cherry, blackcurrant, cedar, blackberry, and black tar. It shows a deep concentration of flavors; a smooth, almost silky texture, framed by firm tannins and tannic structure, which truly stands out at the beginning of the long finish.
Pairing:
Grilled, roasted, or stewed red meats and game meats in sauces with a touch of acidity, with tomato or wine, or herbs like rosemary, thyme, and bay leaf. It is a wine that pairs perfectly with most cheeses.
