“Vendetta di fuoco”, a film made in Sicily in ’59 is the iconic setting chosen by the artist Sdrina to vividly represent in full color the power of 100% Nerello Mascalese cru. A value-added aspect that originates in the vineyard even before it reaches the cellar, with the selection of the best grapes cultivated in small bushes, at the foot of Mount Etna, in Contrada Moscamento.
Tenuta Ferrata is a magical place nestled among hazelnut groves, oaks and chestnut trees, positioned at the foot of the
volcano Etna World Heritage Site, precisely in Castiglione di Sicilia. On an extension of 90 hectares of countryside, to date 22 hectares are cultivated with indigenous varieties arranged at about 650 m t above sea level. The vines, raised both with the espalier system and the traditional alberello traditional, are developed in a ventilated area where the climate of low mountains, characterized by strong temperature ranges, gives the wines a strong imprint.
No irrigation. Harvest absolutely by hand as the tradition wants. Best grapes selected by hand from the oldest vines of the vineyard growed with the alberello training system only. Grapes are destemmed and not totally crushed, then kept in thermo-controlled fermentation vats where they macerate for 10/12 days at a temperature ranging between 18 and 22°C.
After alcoholic fermentation the grapes are racked with soft presses. This wine is aged for about 24 months in French oak tonneau of 550 LT. After bottled is aged minimum 10 months in the bottle.
